Sweet rings
sweetness is my weakness.....
Beach discovered single-use plastic waste, fragmented branding, colourful lettering and cartoon figures emerge from oversized glass waterjet cut rings. Graphics which are familiar to us from childhood are reconfigured and disassembled into bold compositions that distort meanings.
Becoming an artefact and an object of adornment, the rings explore the tensions that exist between body and object, humans and waste plastic, memory and material. An echo all too loud of environmental damage to the planet, consumer excess and our shorelines as decades of dumping grounds.
Offering a playful yet critical reflection of our culture that produced them. In a liminal space between jewellery and sculpture, the rings challenge the language of adornment in our times of ecological urgency.
